Alignment of standards for measurement microphones, sound level meters and sound calibrators
AHG26 was established recently with the scope to improve and ensure appropriate interactions and linkages between the various standards produced by IEC/TC29/MT 4 ‘Sound level meters’, IEC/TC29/WG 5 ‘Measurement microphones’ and IEC/TC29/MT 17 ‘Sound calibrators’. There are inevitably many interactions between the standards of these various groups and it is important that an overview of consistency is performed. AHG26 will report back to WG 5, MT 4 and MT 17 where any changes to the standards under their responsibility will be performed.
What do we cover
Although AHG26 will not produce any international standards itself it plans to write a useful guidance document, showing the interactions and linkages between the various standards.
Why is it important
Standardisation is necessary for a range of reasons, including:
•Establishing performance requirements to enable high quality hearing aids to be produced and marketed
•Consistency in the application of measurement principles
•Safety requirements enabling the end users to safe and well functioning devices.
